Britney Spears has taken to Instagram to address rumors about her working on a new album, emphatically stating that she will “never return to the music industry.”
The pop singer’s response came in light of reports circulating on Page Six, suggesting that she might be collaborating with Charli XCX and writer Julia Michaels for an undisclosed record, marking her first album in almost a decade. The report mentioned that Spears hadn’t yet recorded any new material, as the project was still in its early stages.
In the caption of an Instagram post featuring the Italian Renaissance painting “Salome Bearing the Head of St. John the Baptist,” Spears dismissed the rumors, saying, “They keep saying I’m turning to random people to do a new album… I will never return to the music industry.” She clarified that when she writes, it’s either for fun or for other artists. She also revealed that over the past two years, she has written more than 20 songs for other artists, shedding light on a lesser-known aspect of her musical endeavors.
While Spears and Julia Michaels have collaborated before, the exact nature of their relationship remains unclear. Michaels is credited as a writer on Spears’ song “Slumber Party,” featured on her last studio album, “Glory” (2016). The track was co-written by Mattias Larsson, Robin Fredriksson, and Justin Tranter.
Spears described herself as a “ghostwriter,” indicating that she writes for other artists without receiving credit for her work, and expressed her preference for it that way.
Addressing additional comments regarding her book, “The Woman in Me,” Spears disputed claims that it was released without her approval. The book achieved national bestseller status, selling over 1.1 million copies in its first week across various formats, including print, pre-sales, e-books, and audiobooks.
In response to her critics, Spears concluded her Instagram post by stating, “That’s far from the truth. Have you read the news these days? I’m so loved and blessed.”
