Former Liverpool defender, Jamie Carragher, has said England’s big players “didn’t turn up” at Euro 2024.
Carragher wrote this on X after the Three Lions lost 2-1 to Spain in Sunday’s final.
Mikel Oyarzabal came off the bench to score the winner for La Roja, after Cole Palmer cancelled out Nico William’s second-half goal.
After the game, there were calls for Gareth Southgate to step aside as England manager.
But Carragher has insisted the manager is not always to blame.
He said: “Sven played 442, Fabio was too strict, Gareth is too defensive! Funny how it’s always on the manager isn’t it?!!
“The fact is our big players didn’t turn up in this tournament. And other tournaments going back years.”
