Selena Gomez is preparing to release her upcoming album, the successor to 2020’s “Rare.” While dropping hints about the content, the actor and singer seems to be more focused on her acting career than her music.

During an unreleased episode of the “Smartless” podcast featuring Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett, Gomez discussed her desire to find a niche in the entertainment industry. Having already pursued acting, singing, and establishing herself as the CEO of Rare Beauty cosmetics, she mentioned that she feels she has one more album in her but would ideally choose acting in a perfect world.

The hosts praised Gomez’s musical talents and suggested that she doesn’t necessarily have to choose just one path. However, Gomez replied, expressing her desire to take a break and relax because she feels tired.

The full episode of the “Smartless” podcast will be available on January 8, but current subscribers to Wonder+ can already access it.

In other parts of the episode, Gomez opened up about how her demanding workload led her to seek treatment at a mental health institution. This topic was previously discussed with transparency in her documentary “My Mind & Me” and was also a factor in her decision to cancel a tour. She expressed that she loves working because it serves as a distraction from negative things but acknowledged that it eventually took a toll on her.

Gomez recently released the upbeat pop track “Single Soon,” which is likely the first single from her upcoming album. In an interview with Vogue Mexico, she mentioned that she had written no sad songs for the new album. Additionally, Gomez achieved success with the Afrobeats star Rema, as their collaboration “Calm Down” became one of the top 10 songs of 2023 and received triple-platinum certification from the RIAA.
